DEAR NIANTIC - ideas and suggestions for the devs

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 10:33 AM PST

Hey Niantic! You guys made a game we all have a lot of feelings about...and this is our spot to express those feelings and make some statements about ways we think the game could be even better for us - and by extension, you!

If you want to complain about the game in a less constructive way please do so in the Salty Sunday - Rage Rants and complaints thread.

Here you will find ideas and suggestions - a mix of the positive posts and constructive criticism that reddit's Pokemon Go community have compiled and discussed and up/downvoted by importance and validity for us all. If there's one post on /r/pokemongo you guys should be paying attention to, it's this one, so please do.

Hey /r/PokemonGo Trainers! This recurring monthly post is for you guys. Sort posts by "top" to see what has been voted most important so far, but consider sorting by "new" as well to weigh in on the most recent ideas!

Please pay attention to the /r/PokemonGo rules for commenting behavior and civility, and use the report button when necessary to alert the mods to any post or thread that needs a review!

After you reach level 40, xp should be transferred into stardust.

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 08:32 PM PST

There would be a conversion rate of something like 1/10 so every million xp you get, you earn 100,000 stardust. Become a best friend with someone and lucky egg it? 20,000 stardust. This will make lucky eggs and friendship levels useful again and give players a way of getting that way needed stardust as well as a reward for those who have played enough to get to 40.

Maybe I'm weird, but does anybody else enjoy seeing what others put into a gym after you take it?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 08:28 AM PST

It is kind of fun for me. I'll take over a gym, put a Pokémon in it, then check back to see what was added to it. I always like to see if somehow me and a bunch of strangers follow a theme (like me placing an Umbreon and everybody else following also places an evolved form of Eevee). I don't know why I enjoy checking back so much, but I do!

Never thought I'd see the day where I'd catch 3 different shinies

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 03:56 AM PST

Late at night in bed, I decided to open up Pokemon Go and start sorting my Pokemon box, and found a Zangoose, Meowth and Houndoor at my house, and to my surprise, both Zangoose and Houndoor were shiny, sadly Meowth was not, but I was still happy.

Few hours go by, I showed my brother the shinies and while showing, a Meowth pops up and I click it.

...It's the shiny meowth that was missing last night, never thought this would happen to me.

I accidentally left my Blissey in Kansas City and I don’t think she is ever coming back

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 05:32 PM PST

    bye bye blissey

I visited my grandma in Kansas City last month and my Blissey still has not returned! This gym is in an old folks community so I doubt they get much Pokémon action. Anyway, if anyone lives near Prairie Village (suburb of KC) please feel free to kick out my big pink man.

Team Rocket Rewards Aren't Very Rewarding

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 05:44 AM PST

Great work by Niantic introducing Rocket Leaders and Giovanni, always good to have something fresh. But let's talk about rewards or lack thereof.

Regular Grunt battles grant you 500 dust and nothing else, so into your revives and potions you go. Rocket Leaders grant you 1000 dust and a few potions or revives, while Giovanni gets you 5000 dust, potions/revives and a small chance of an Unova Stone. Dust is great, but everything else is meh.

How about giving us a few potions in regular grunt battles and giving us a chance of TMs in Leader/Giovanni battles along with the potions/revives? The potions help, but realistically for the higher difficulty with Leader Battles, just potions and revives aren't very rewarding by themselves. You're basically completing a Raid in one Leader battle, that should be worth a bit more than just potions or revives. Or at least increase the number of potions or revives given as stops just don't drop them often.

Should I lucky trade a shadowball Mewtwo?

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 05:20 AM PST

My shadowball Mewtwo is 91% IV 15 ATK, 12 DEF, 14 STA Keep in mind the only other shadow attacker I have is a hundo gengar, so should I risk rolling these stats? I was maybe thinking of waiting till I get more solid shadow pokemon before I take my chances with this SB Mewtwo.

    what pokemon do you keep?

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 02:47 AM PST

My inventory is getting a bit full and generally my routine is to go through and transfer the lowest CP of any pokemon that I have more than 1 of, so I try to keep 1 of each type I've captured. How do you decide which pokemon you keep in your inventory?

For those struggling with the Leaders

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 07:10 PM PST

I see A LOT of complaint of people struggling with the leaders, even using their best mons, and since I was able to complete it on my second try (first try was before I knew which mons they had), I figured I'd give some tips (really just one big one).

Obviously everyone knows to play to weaknesses, I beat Sierra first so we'll go with her. My team consisted of a machamp (2300 CP, counter and close combat), and Arcanine (2600CP, fire fang and wild charge), and Yanmega (2500 CP, bug bite and aerial ace).

Now since they're mostly dark/ice types you'd probably think that machamp is the most important part, and you'd be wrong, surprisingly it was Yanmega due to being able to tank the hits enough, and having a super fast recharge in AA. The AI will kick your ass if you use larger charge up attacks due to being able to block them, unlike regular TR stops.

So what I did was sent out my Arcanine to take out the sneasel, I got him down to almost no health before he used his charge attack on me taking me out. It was important I didn't shield because I needed to save it for the next move. Now, with Yanmega on the field, I quickly take care of the rest of the sneasel and move on to their Sableye. Luckily, there's a glitch (I think it's a glitch) that allows you to spam them while they're still coming out of the ball, so just keep spamming the attack button to charge up that AA (or whatever quick charge attack you have is) and waste his shield. Also, remember that there is a brief period after a charge attack where you can also spam to charge up even more with no retaliation. Basically, never stop hitting that button the entire time you're in battle aside from during a charge. With that out of the way I was able to get in one AA that they took due to their shields being gone, finishing the Sableye and leaving the Houndoom. He fucked my Yanmega right up, it my machamp came in and took care of it.

So yeah, hope this was helpful, and good luck out therr

I hate tasks where I have to battle other trainers

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 06:52 AM PST

I hate research tasks where I have to battle another trainer.

I only have one account and people with multiple accounts always battle their other accounts and not many people are interested in battling.

In my area, some one tried to set up a local battling league but there wasn't enough interest so we couldn't do it.

I now wanna finish my special research for the team rocket task but I am unable to as I have no one to battle.

I've asked on my local Facebook, Discord and Telegram and no one is interested so I dunno what else to do.

I only have one device so I can't make another to battle and I'm pretty sure multi accounts is against the TOS (although loads of people do it)

I wish there was an online battling system like the Pokemon games so I could actually complete this task

What does it take to get Sinoh Stone to drop?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 09:52 PM PST

Seriously, this is getting absolutely ridiculous. I have a stack of pokes waiting to evolve but I'm completely dead in the water because I can't get any Sinoh Stones. My 7 day spin streak drops everything BUT Sinoh and I swear if I get one more Upgrade, I think I might throw my phone. I don't think I've managed to get a single Sinoh in at least 6 months.

The last one I got was from a battle but I don't know many people who play any more so battling is a bust. I just wish they'd put these materials in the store for purchase for those who have a never ending string of bad luck and Metal Coats.

Am I missing some key mechanic to get them to actually drop?

[Idea] Notifications of nearby raids when the app is closed

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 08:16 AM PST

Has anybody else missed a raid because your Pokémon Go was closed? I have had that happen a number of times. Perhaps, you are eating at a restaurant that is a gym, or at college that has a few gyms. Both of these places are places where one might not have their Pokémon Go open at all times, and that could cause one to miss a raid or two that you would have done if you knew about it. While not everybody would want or use this feature, I want to tell you why I think that it is a good idea and why it is handy feature to have. I will tell you what made me come up with the idea and why it could benefit Pokémon Go players

I am sitting at the college lounge waiting for my class to begin at 2 PM, using various apps to kill time and I open up Pokémon Go just to find that the one indoor gym here had a Cobalion raid, but with only two minutes left. It takes five minutes just to get to that part of the building with the zig zag alternating left and right turns hallway to there.

I think to myself, "If I knew about it 45 minutes ago, I am pretty sure that I could have rounded up some students to help fight it." I still need Cobalion.

I think that it would be a good idea if we could get notifications of nearby raids even when the game is closed. That way, nearby players can be informed that there is a raid happening nearby even when the game is closed. It is not only good for places where you may not have Pokémon Go open all the time, but also if you are sitting somewhere charging your phone for an hour before heading back out and want to know about nearby raids but do not want Pokémon Go open slowing your charge.

Do not want notifications of raids blowing up your phone? There could be an option to turn that off. There could also be an option to inform you of only tier 5 raids, tier 4 raids, or any raids.

In conclusion, notifications for Pokémon Go is something Pokémon Go players could benefit from. I have been a victim of missing raids because my Pokémon Go was not open and I am sure that others have as well. I went over what made me come up with the idea and why it should be implemented as well as mentioning how settings could turn them off for players that do not want that feature. For those about to raid, we salute you, but we need to know that a raid is happening and notifications make that happen.

    The Best Golett

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 06:53 AM PST

Ever since rocket leaders started, I have been fighting team rocket a lot more. I got a lot of fun pokemon that way, still no shiny shadows, but that wont stop me from continuing. Besides, rocket leaders give good items. All these fights though, and I still never ran into Arlo. I love scyther, and i wanted my shot at a shiny, but I only run into cliff and sierra for some reason. Once even seeing 2 sierras in adjacent pokestops.

Then last night, i finally finished step 2 of looming in the shadows, so it was go time. I quickly took out step 3's challenges, and was onto step 4, battling each rocket leader. I found cliff and sierra quickly enough, and took them out without much issue. I was still hunting grunts to make another radar when my friend who was with me at the time saw a golett in his radar since he hasnt gotten one yet. It was across town.

I decided to take the detour since golett was still a rare pokemon, and I could get rocket stops after. We pulled up to the stop that had golett there, and it was a rocket stop! Golett lead us to the right place for sure. So we walked around and found golett, and got back into the car which was in range of the stop. I talked to the grunt at the stop, and he had a shadow larvitar! lucky me! That golett was just what I needed. So i took out the grunt and assembled my radar, getting ready to head out. I notice that another stop turned black that was still in range of my car... and it was Arlo! My first time seeing him right when i needed to, all thanks to that golett!

It is always a good idea to go out of your way for those rare pokemon

[Discussion] Would it be a lot better if we have GLOBAL RANKING for some things?

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 02:00 AM PST

I'm not sure if this has been discussed here before so please bare with me.

Global ranking is a thing in MOST (if not all) online games and I'm wondering why we don't have that one in PoGo. I mean there are lots of things that people could compete for ranks (i.e. LEVEL/EXP, Pokedex filled, Pokemon Caught, Gym battles Won, Total hours defended, Total Gold gym badge, Raids won, etc).

I know there's an upcoming update about Global PVP where there's a global ranking for each league alongside with it but I think it is a bit different from what I've mentioned above.

Having a global ranking would challenge trainers to climb to the top and it will also serve as a solid proof for some people who claims that they are the number 1 trainer in the world like Brandon Tan. This makes the endgame more interesting imo.

Team Go Rocket Overworld Theme - Gone today?

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 08:18 AM PST

I really love when they roll out different overworld music, like the Lavender Town theme during Halloween and now this Team Rocket remix they added while walking. I was sad to hear that the music reverted back to the default Pokemon Go theme when I got up this morning, even though the Team GO Rocket promotion is still on going. This isn't just me, right? Niantic should really have a feature to change overworld music, maybe not custom tracks because that'd be a stretch, but at the very least to existing music they've used in the game.

Lost Carnivine? Spawned just inside Virginia

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 03:41 PM PST

I was coming home from North Carolina when I stopped at a rest area (the PokeStop has an amusing name), and among the spawns was a Carnivine. Usually I don't see them until I'm well into NC, but this one was a few hundred feet into Virginia. Unfortunately I wasn't able to catch it so I don't have any solid proof aside from a screenshot, but just wanted to share it anyway in case anyone else has seen one this far north before.

Suggested Courtesy Guidelines (when playing in app)

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 08:08 AM PST

I love playing pokemon go. The level of joy and community I experience is almost unparalleled. However, there are certain things that can get really annoying and I've been thinking about certain suggested courtesies we as players could extend to one another. What are your thoughts?

    1. Dont knock anyone out of a gym that's been there less than 5 hours (they just want some coins too)

    2. Get to your ex raid on time! It's a little annoying (and sometimes confusing) when everyone has to pull out because someone was late (unless you are with a group of friends privately). There are lots of people there and most may be in their cars and can't hear. I know I hate it when I'm doing a raid and the number drops from 20 to 7 out of nowhere.

    3. If you are doing a raid, actually participate. I've been in a number of raids where the other individual wouldn't attack and just expected to reap the benefits of my labor.

    4. Always try to return a gift after you've accepted one. When you dont, it's a little confusing. Also, you don't wanna be that player who never returns a gift.

Best Friends with Long Distance Trainers GKCBU

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 05:18 AM PST

After playing very casually since Feb, I'm about to get my first Best Friends. Unfortunately most of my top friends are from far, far away, and coordinating eggs is difficult.

Has anyone found a work around for this? I know I'm probably just going to have to suck it up and not get the extra xp.

However it works out, thank you friends for sticking it out with me and sending way more gifts than I ever did. We did it!

Have Google Play? Can't update or install new version? Solution here.

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 05:18 AM PST

I have a Galaxy S9 and since the November update I was unable to update. I tried uninstalling completely for a fresh reinstall, and that still did not work. The game was completely unplayable. I tried every trouble shooting measure for the app store and phone but nothing worked. However, a solution has been found.

Check your phone apps to make sure you do not have an app named Board Kings. I have no idea how it ended up on my phone but that is what is preventing the install.

Uninstall it and the game should work.
