All Pokemongo related images will be able to be posted directly again.

This was decided after a community poll that ran for almost 10 days that overwhelmingly requested this.

Internally there are about 10 posts/comments/modmails a day asking why users cannot post images directly, and when we did allow them directly users rarely understood or used rule 2b properly.

Originally this rule existed because of old reddits system, and a desire to curb the flood of similar screenshots. After new reddit happened and they had their own hosting system we held the rule simply to reduce screenshots that were dull, lackluster, repetitive etc.

With recent reddit changes like the powerups, them blacklisting IBB (used to host images) and Imgur forcing ads on their uploads we decided it was time to assess this rule again.

We have retained the services of Magic eye bot to catch exact reposts, but it should no longer remove rule 2b violations.

How we deal with images going forward might be slightly tweeked. We are seeing if there is a bot out there to automatically turn off images for Tuesdays for example to reduce spotlight hour spam. But for the most part, if you can post an image, and it came from Pokemon Go, you are good to post it from now on.

The edited rule reads as follows.

2b: Screenshots and Media

Rule 2b has been revised to allow all Pokémon GO related images. This includes screenshots, AR images, art related directly to Go, memes that use Go image assets, photos of Go related events such as GOFest, Raid groups, community day gatherings etc.**

Please remember this sub is specific to GO, and not a general catch all for pokemon. Art needs to be related to Go in some way, such as being about a community day, or including aspects of the game like cp curves, stops, etc.

All other image related rules like memes needing to use assets from the game are the same.

Many alternative ideas are addressed in the poll post above, but the bottom line is users simply don't read the image rules for the sub. This has been proven time and time again, so any attempt to filter some images from the game ultimately result in massive actions from mods, and then upset posters. Slightly before we disabled direct images, the sub was performing over 50k image actions a month. Even with magic eye bot catching those and providing a cleaner experience when sorting by new, it missed a few, and most its removals were challenged so it did nothing to alleviate mod work. That combined with community desire leaves us where we are today.

As requested by a user, I have made a new flair for non ar images, and set flairs required for all posts on the sub. A related request to be able to filter out flairs was made, but I am not sure how that is done. If any one knows feel free to leave a message here.

Another teeny edit:

Automod will auto remove all images that do not use one of the 4 image flairs.

Please use art obviously for art.

Non ar screenshots for screenshots of the game

AR shot for Augmented reality photos of your mon in the real world

Photo for group photos of events, photos of your Go related cookies cake, pokeball powerbank, whatever you took an actual photo of with a camera.

It might be a bit, but I have been told we should be able to add a filtered browsing option, so that will be incoming.

A single flair search system is now set up for new reddit. I have reached out to r/pokemon to see if they might share their old reddit filter system as it looks quite clean but requires a bit more knowledge than I have to create alone.
