[Discussion] This is the best event so far

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 09:20 AM PST

This is what an event should feel like. Huge spawn increase, hard to get Pokemon in abundance and doesn't last just 4 hours in an afternoon. Can we have more events like this??

Seeing an Onyx is usually rare enough. Thanks to this really great event, I found it's mythical evolution, the Trionyx: https://imgur.com/a/B4LCDRk

    Charged TM failure

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 05:12 AM PST

So I'm feeling a little down this morning and was looking for some advice and/or perspective. I'm slowly building up my storage with coins from holding gyms, but in the meantime I'm trying to spend some of my 50 rare candy to power up a pokemon and free up a little space. I chose the best of the two Kyogres (both from Research) and use one of my six charged TMs to change his Ice attack to Water. Got his electric attack. Went again - back to Ice. Ultimately I used all six of my TMs and ended up exactly where I started (Ice charged attack), but with a profound sense of disbelief for what just happened. It may be weeks before I even see another Charged TM.

I get that sometimes you get wrecked by RNG, but did I make a bad decision on electing to use a TM in the first place on Kyogre? I had used a fast TM and about 20 candy on Groudon (my first Legendary from Research) and have gotten a lot of use out of him. I'm relatively weak in Water types and figured that Kyogre would fill a similar need for a long time.

Currently level 30, been playing since September, working towards soloing Tier 3 raids, but with little time or ability to team up for anything higher in the foreseeable future. Would appreciate any thoughts from you all.

    Birthday luck

I know this is reddit, so cake days are way more important than birthdays, but today is my 18th birthday. I'm very busy with school in the weeks leading up to christmas and today I had a French speaking exam (I'm Dutch and French is probably my most difficult subject), but after being nervous all day I ended up doing fine on the exam. Relieved I returned home, but decided to quickly spin a pokestop on my way. Then this guy pops up right next to me! I'm so happy the Niantic gods blessed me with a shiny on my birthday (IVs aren't great, but I don't care at all) and I figured I'd share it here.

I want to thank Niantic for being able to submit pokestops

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 07:01 AM PST

And not just pokestops but the ability to submit Ingress portals before this as well. Since I came back to the game, about July 2018, I've been trying to find Ingress players who could submit some portals that would become pokestops for our small town. A kind Ingress player from a nearby community helped our town to get quite some new stops, and now that we have the ability to submit waypoints in Pokemon Go as well we have a way better playing experience. More pokestops/gyms equal more items, team rocket battles, raids, research tasks and pokemon (I think?).

So, when I came back to the game there was a total of 40 pokestops and 11 gyms in and around our town. Since then, 22 new pokestops, 5 new gyms and 4 gyms that were pokestops have been added, and there are still quite some things I'm going to submit. Meaning that there has been a 55% increase in pokestops and a 82% increase in gyms in the last year or so. For this I think it is right to appreciate Niantic for once (even though it took quite long for Wayfarer to go live), the experience in our town has been massively improved.

    Defeated Arlo with this team.

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 07:22 AM PST

https://imgur.com/a/fofXMmI I'm a rural player so getting rocket radars takes a while. First raid, defeated Arlo with this team. Took two tries. First one I used general teams and failed because of that. After that I used specialized counters. I hate word limit. That's why I'm rambling.

TIL just because a pokemon has the cp of a hundo, doesn't mean it will be a hundo

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 05:54 AM PST

    https://imgur.com/oLo8CEs

So the story is that, there's currently a storm, pretty darn intimidating, but there's a misdreavus just out of reach. i decided to men up, grab an umbrella and head out, tapped on the misdreavus and hurried back home, all while chanting 'i'm one with the force, the force is with me' to avoid being struck by lightning.

Got home, checked the misdreavus, and i noticed it had a familiar cp, i quickly checked it and it matched with a hundo cp! so i excitedly gave it a golden razz and an ultraball, caught it and checked... it wasn't a hundo. oh the disappointment. at least it made for a good story.

What is the allure of the shiny pokemon? Most of them look nice however the CP etc is so low and the stardust cost to make power them up is just too much it does not seem worth it. Am I missing something like better attcks or is it purely an aesthetic thing?

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 04:36 AM PST

Title pretty much sums up my question. I've caught many shiny pokemon over the past 2 years. One or two have been really nice and strong however most of them is so low in cp it would seem like a waste of candies and stardust to just get them to a decent cp to evolve them that it does not seem worth it. Is there any benefit of having the shiny pokemon? I've deleted probably 200-300 of them purely due to the low cp. Lastly I will add that I only evolve pokemon that are 90-100% full in terms of cp as to not having to spend to much to upscale them.

To finally get this fish to evolve!!

I thought I'd never make it, but with the help of a couple of lucky hatches, I finally have 100 Feebas candy... and can move onto walking a Magikarp for another eon.

    A near almost Miss(dreavous)

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 08:02 AM PST

I caught a shiny Misdreavous last night. Was so excited. Then the game flaked out and as I stated at the closed pokeball, the dreaded "This object cannot be used at this time message popped up. I said some definitely grown up words then, let me tell you. After the colorful language, I glumly went back to the game. After a minute or so, a Misdreavous appeared. My heart leapt! Sure enough, there she was in all her glory, shiny and still with her berry applied. Needless to say, I grabbed that gal while the opportunity to recover was there. I am now the owner of one bright, shiny Misdreavous. Woot!

    DISMANTLING!!

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 06:57 PM PST

I think it would be good to have a dismantle for stardust to get rid of the junk in inventory. For example start with normal pokeball 50 stardust per ball and increases per ball in increments of 50 all the way to 150. If that's to much 25 would even suffice in increments of 25. Think this would add good ability to progress and also not feel like you are wasting your time by throwing them away. Anyways what do you you guys think?

    Stuck on AR+ introducing screen

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 06:26 AM PST

New player here! I download the app today and was having a lot of fun, until this came up:

When I tap onto a pokemon, the app wants to introduce me to AR+ and doesn't load anything, even if I decline. So if I restart the app all works fine, until I want to catch something.

I tried reinstalling the app twice, restarting my phone and removing permission for the camera.

    Anything else I could try?

Has anyone noticed changes in the requirements of POI's becoming gyms?

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 05:48 AM PST

Some weeks ago I saw a new gym (which has been a Pokéstop before) near my office and was a bit confused about this, because there weren't any other new stops. So I assumed the gym was there because someone changed the position of a POI nearby to have the 6 neccessary POIs in one level 14 cell. Today I checked this on the Ingress Map, but nothing like this happened. So we got an S2 level14 cell with 5 POIs and 2 gyms and 3 stops in it. Until now there had to be 6 POIs in one cell to have 2 gyms. (I think we have another cell with this features, but I could not check this) Has anyone noticed similiar events? Or does anyone know, if there where changes referring to this topic? If there is another thread about this already, let me know :)

    Gift Exchange

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 08:16 AM PST

Why is there no way to see if a friend has/still has an unopened gift on the "Friends" home page?

Clicking onto every friend to see if they can be sent a gift is so tiring. I know the arrow shows you if you've sent the player a gift that day, but aside from checking the news to see who has opened the gift there's no way of knowing unless you click onto each individual profile.

I feel like this is an easy fix too creating some sort of icon or way of notifying the player that the friend can be sent another gift? Other people annoyed by this?

Munchlax shouldn’t be in 10km eggs

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 08:12 AM PST

Where I live, it's hard to find good Pokéstops, especially with strict parents that don't let me wander around by myself. When I do come across a Pokéstop and get a 10k egg, I get ecstatic. I hatch it as soon as I can, walking around as much as possible, only to get...

    ...a munchlax

9/10 times I hatch a 10km egg I get a Munchlax. I don't know if it's the same with other people, but I get really disappointed when I see this tiny chubby creature pop out of the freshly hatched egg.

I think Munchlax would be better suited in a 5km egg as a rare Pokémon someone could hatch, instead of disappointing other people when getting the rare 10km egg and getting this Pokémon.

Does anyone else feel the same?
