Pokémon GO - Bring back the weekly remote raid pass!

Bring back the weekly remote raid pass!

    Posted: 20 Dec 2020 02:25 PM PST

I love this game and one of my favorite parts is doing raids so I can get rare pokémon, legendaries, and good IVs! I live close enough to have 6 or 7 gyms on my nearby but where I am, the pandemic is still bad and it also gets dark before 5pm. This time of year especially, remote passes are ideal so I can raid safely - I have only completed 2 raids since they stopped offering the weekly remote pass. If I can't go out to raid, I also can't go out to put pokemon in gyms so I can afford passes. They already give us a free daily pass, why not let us get a free remote pass weekly? Even better, why not make the free daily pass remote? I'm super frustrated, especially when my research goals & leveling past 40 require raiding. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way, I just hope we can bring more and more attention to this so that someone at Niantic will make a change.

Allow us to Mega Evolve while raid is starting

    Posted: 20 Dec 2020 08:17 PM PST

We should be able to Mega Evolve our Pokémon while in the raid screen. When we get a random raid invite from a friend, we have to be quick and join or miss out. At that point it's too late to mega evolve.

Also we should be able to either see the attacks our Pokémon have or be able to see our tags when in the raid screen. (If we can do the latter, I haven't been able to figure that out yet)

Edit: ok so tap and hold the mon when in raid screen to see attacks.

I think PoGo should start showing specifically how long a player last played the game and not just “2+ days”

    Posted: 20 Dec 2020 03:12 PM PST

I'm in a big discord for PoGo players in my city so my friend list got full really quick and once in a while I would remove inactive players to make space. I personally dislike how the game only tells us if the person has been active within the last 2 days. It should show us if it's been weeks or months because I don't wanna wrongfully delete someone who didn't play for 3 days thinking they haven't played for a while.

Why are some low Pokémon disproportionately hard to catch?

    Posted: 21 Dec 2020 03:46 AM PST

150 Cp Bunnelby and Weedle hopping out of great balls, 600 Cp or above Litleo hops out on the first shake for anything except an ultra ball, berry or not. Mind you, 1100 Cp Gastly? Stays in first try with a normal Pokeball. Don't even get me started on Fletchinder and Fennekin. I don't get why they're so annoying to catch, because most aren't even crazy strong when they evolve.

    Am I the only one?

    Posted: 21 Dec 2020 07:29 AM PST

Am I the only one that thinks it shouldn't be so hard to catch the Pokémon when we get them for completing special/field research or when you get one from winning in the battle league? I don't understand why they made it so hard to catch them when we pretty much won them. I won a chikorita of all things in the battle league & it took about 10 poke balls and berries to catch him. I don't think it makes sense and it's frustrating.

5km eggs are better than the 10km and 12km ones

    Posted: 20 Dec 2020 11:16 PM PST

I literally just got a Froakie, my first one, from a 5km egg. On the other hand from 10km and 12km eggs im getting pokémons that I immediately transfer. It's so annoying. You walk more, for less.

BTW I didn't see a single Froakie during the event, despite the fact that I was outside searching all day.

Lack of interest for Kyurem but very frustrated with lack of Regi raids. Should've been a week each like the Legendary birds we got in September~

    Posted: 20 Dec 2020 07:55 PM PST

Just an opinion of someone very frustrated seeing as there aren't alot of Registeel (same with Regirock and I'm sure it'll be the same with Regice) raids in my area when even with the large amount of gyms. It sucks they're on for two days for each mon and I've only seen 2 this whole weekend. Just seems like another sh*tty move.

So I just finished grinding to evolve my torchic

    Posted: 20 Dec 2020 06:16 PM PST

After grinding for a while looking for torchic candies to evolve it all the way to blaziken(which I was very proud of). I go for my morning walk and poke stop spin, and I found this guy. Higher cp than the blaziken I just evolved. I don't know if it's a gift from the gods or a spit in the face of my hard work.this guy right here.

Why don’t we have a claim all gift/send all gifts button?

    Posted: 20 Dec 2020 09:27 AM PST

It'd be so much faster, it takes about 15 minutes just to claim and send gifts for me, wouldn't a claim and send all button be better?

    It finally happened.

    Posted: 21 Dec 2020 05:32 AM PST

For months, I've been trying to find a good Scyther. All I found barely had stats. After 32 or so Scyther and no luck, I battle team rocket, catch their Scyther, appraise it, and see it has 3 stars and almost maxed out every stat. I jumped in the air with joy. Been waiting so long for this!! Now gotta work on getting Gengar and Umbreon!

    Posted: 21 Dec 2020 12:39 AM PST

I've been struggling to get legendaries or mythics but over this weekend I've gotten 2 registeels, a celebi, and a victini (mythics from quests) I'd like to thank the people that gave me tips to catch "rarer Pokémon".

A breakdown of Niantic’s net profit

    Posted: 20 Dec 2020 10:21 PM PST

A recent post of mine has caused me to want to investigate where the $4 billion dollars that us game players have spent in the store since 2016 has gone.

Most news sources will site this $4b as the revenue PokemonGo has made in the App Store but what exactly happens to this money and how much does Niantic (the company responsible for updates, research, service, etc) get, and what does it do with it.

So first we must look back to sources from the app's release. Apparently, Niantic, Apple, the Pokemon Company and Nintendo have a joint deal over the in store revenue generated by the game. This does not factor in any of the costs of hosting, servicing or further developing the game. It is just pure App Store revenue.

    Quote from The Independent (UK):

" 'Out of every 100 units earned at the app store, 30 would go to Apple, 30 to Niantic, 30 to Pokémon [the pokemon company] and 10 to Nintendo,' David Gibson at Macquarie Research said." This is the probable breakdown to this day.

So Niantic has seen 30% of the in app purchases putting its revenue from the app at $1.2 billion.

Niantic is also solely responsible for the operating side of PokemonGo as well as the development of new content (which includes new apps like harrypotter and Catan). To see how much they have to play with let's take out their costs associated with salaries.

Niantic has roughly 1000 employees. The lowest is paid about $50,000/year and their average executive salary is $207,000/year with 12 executives. (According to comparably) Let's just pretend every non-exec only makes $50,000/year. This puts a rough estimate of their yearly costs from wages at $52,500,000. And all time cost of $315,000,000 up to the start of 2021 (mind you this doesn't factor salaries before PoGo was released).

They also have to recoup losses made in developing the original app. The best source I found for how much it like took is as follows:

    1. Hyperlink Infosystem: $6,000 to $40,000

    2. Sourcebits: $100,000 to $200,000

    3. Lexington Creative: $100,000 to $250,000

    4. Fueled: $120,000 to $300,000

    5. Pocket App: $80,000 to $200,000

    6. AR Development Team: $25,000 to $50,000 per month

    7. Design: $40,000

    8. Backend: $20,000

Putting the money from revenue that went back for the original development at between $500,000-1,100,000

Take that and salary off and this gives Niantic roughly $884 million that it has had to play with since 2016.

But now for the big cost associated with PokemonGo which is bandwidth. Let's just venture to say that PokemonGo costs Niantic $0.005/player/day (a gross underestimate with comparable apps costing $0.05-0.10/player/day). Here's a breakdown by year:

2016-45 million daily active users (globally), 2017- 20 million daily active users (globally), 2018- 5 million daily active users (globally), 2019- 5 million daily active users (globally), 2020- unknown but reported 35% increase in monthly active users so perhaps 6.75 million daily active users (globally)

    82 million daily users x $0.005 x 1629 days since its release=$668,000,000

That leaves $216,000,000 a good amount of which is likely eaten up by monthly active users, an actual higher per player cost and those employees that aren't execs but make more than $50,000.

The rest goes into product support, development of better technology, AR, new game designs, user resources, research, beta testing, real estate/corporate offices, maintenance, office technology systems, charitable donations, and designing the other games that Niantic is working on.

These numbers might be slightly off, but for those of you thinking Niantic is rolling in $4 billion dollars that is far from the truth. Their real investment they are sitting on is the aggregated real world data which outweighs the small amount of earnings their games get them after the costs are considered.

They've even had to reach out consistently to other companies for funding all the way through 2019, which they wouldn't need to do (or want to do) if they were simply rolling in dough:

    2015 - $20million - Google/Nintendo

    2016 - $5millon - Alsop Louie

    2017 - $200million - Spark

    2019 - $245million - IVP

Pokemon too far away to hit at all iPhone 12

    Posted: 21 Dec 2020 06:38 AM PST

Since a recent update (don't know the exact date or version) Pokemon have been so far away it's impossible for me to hit some types with Pokeballs. The worst offender is Zubat/Crobat which sometimes are literally impossible. But I just found a Snorlax and it was also so far away, throwing the ball as fast as I could, I could only barely hit its feet about 50% of the time. Zero chance of hitting with a curveball, they just don't go far enough.

I wasn't trying to throw with my thumb while holding the phone, I was using my index finger on my free hand to sweep across the screen as fast as I could. And I don't have arthritis or anything, I was sweeping up the screen pretty fast, all the way from the bottom to the top, which gave me better results than anything else I've tried. Still just barely hit Snorlax about half the time, usually fell short.

Anybody else experiencing this problem? I know the "answer" is probably to use AR and look upwards to bring the Pokémon lower in the frame but it's a pandemic, I do a lot of playing indoors, and don't always have enough space for AR to work properly. And this doesn't seem like it should really be necessary.

    Is this a good trade?

    Posted: 21 Dec 2020 06:33 AM PST

So recently my friend offered me either a Shiny Sableye or a Shiny Woobat for a Flying Pikachu.

Overall is this a good trade? I know both Pokémon are rare but since I've only been playing a couple months, I thought another opinion on this trade would help out.

I'm beyond pissed with the mid-air freeze bug

    Posted: 21 Dec 2020 03:45 AM PST

Niantic said they fixed the bug where you can't catch remote legendary's because the ball keeps freezing in mid-air and you miss every shot. But they still haven't fixed it. I wasted yet another raid pass on this shit and it makes me furious. How can you expect people to pay for a game that isn't playable. Either fix the damn bug or I'm never spending money again on this game.

    Ways to use tagging

    Posted: 21 Dec 2020 07:29 AM PST

Tagging could be so much more useful if you could also filter your Pokemon when you are trading, selecting your buddy or the Pokemon you want to place at a gym. I also made specific tags for the Pokemon I wanted to use in GL and UL only to find out you can't use tags when creating a battle party.

Right now the only good use I have found for tagging is to filter the Pokemon ready for evolving.

Why have they implemented the feature in such a limited way?

How do you use tagging in a meaningful way?

    Going past level 40

    Posted: 21 Dec 2020 06:38 AM PST

I recently got to level 40 which means I finally unlocked the bonus for doing it before 2021, XL candy and level 50 power up potential.

My current thinking is I'm not going to rush to leveling up to 50 and just enjoy the game without thinking about it, let leveling up happen naturally.

Is there any benefits of going past 40 right now ?

How long does it take to get Sierra in a balloon?

    Posted: 21 Dec 2020 04:51 AM PST

So for my special research i have to defeat each team rocket leader. I've already beat Arlo and cliff, leaving Sierra as my last match. However, I've gone through like 10-12 balloons and have gotten 2 cliffs, 4 James and Jessie, and like 6 arlo. I've been skipping the battles so i don't have to do the grunt work and keep my rocket radar, but I'm getting fed up. Is there a system in place that will keep arlo in balloons until i beat him? Or have i just been really unlucky?
